Stores seem to advertise a sale on almost every holiday. Consumers usually have time off and they might consider spending of their free time, and their money.
But are these sales really any better price-wise? Cheri answered that question with 13News’ Jalea Brooks and in her weekly blog.
The first guideline for any holiday sale, and this applies year-round, is to not buy anything you don’t need. Instead, keep a list of items you DO use or need on a regular basis, then when those needs intersect with a holiday discount on your items, spend money then.
Don’t buy anything you don’t love. It won’t make you happy even if you got it at a discount.
Look for a coupon to get a deeper discount. Stores share codes for online discounts so check their website before you spend your money. Join the store’s rewards program or a cash-back program like Rakuten or Fetch! to augment your savings.
Labor Day falls at a change of seasons, so stores are clearing out summer goods to make room for fall items. Look for discounts on durable summer items like outdoor furniture that you can use next summer. Gas Grills, lawn equipment, and lawn decorations will all be dropping in price at the big box home improvement stores.
Believe it or not, just for this season, Cherie says you might want to skip Halloween and start your Christmas shopping now simply because of the pandemic. Shipping is running slower and supply chains are intermittent. Waiting for that Black Friday sale might mean missing out on item entirely.
