Guess who’s back? Louie the Elf may have been slowed down by those travel restrictions during the pandemic but he is firing up the LuminoCity Light-Up Parade once again.
Dec. 4 will mark the second annual appearance of the popular LuminoCity addition. Families, neighborhoods, nonprofits, community groups, and businesses are invited to spread holiday cheer.
Entries can be any type of vehicle, float, or moving unit as long as it is lighted and holiday themed. Participants do not need to be limited by a traditional trailer. It can be a car covered in holiday lights or inflatables, a truck with decorations in the flatbed, an illuminated golf cart, or even a decked out standard bicycle. Other options include wagons, strollers, motorcycles, ATVs, and more. Power adapters found online or at a local store make it easy to transform almost anything.
The Twinsburg Parks & Recreation Department encourages participants to get creative, the options are endless. “Our grand prize winner from 2019 was actually a family that decided to participate and they had a blast working on it together,” explained Jennifer Betenson, Parks & Recreation director. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase a business, nonprofit, or simply bond as a family. We’re excited to see what the community dreams up this year for LuminoCity’s grand return.”
The parade will start at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 4 and begin lining up at 4:30 p.m. in the Twinsburg City Hall parking lot. Participants are welcome to assemble their float on site beginning at 8 a.m. if needed. Following the parade down Ravenna Road, all entries will park on Church Street for the remainder of the event for photos and community viewing. Every entry will be posted on Facebook for voting and broken down by categories. Following a Facebook vote, the People’s Choice winner will be announced for a holiday prize pack.
Twinsburg Parks & Recreation hopes the parade will continue to grow and will develop a special sense of community pride for the holiday season. Registration is required for entry into the light-up parade. Nonprofit groups, individuals, and families are $25. For-profit groups and businesses are $50. Applications are due by Nov. 24.
Registration can be completed online at TwinsburgRecreation.com or in person at the Twinsburg Fitness Center. Spots will be filled first come, first serve. Conditions and restrictions are listed on the application. Important items of note include no candy or items thrown from floats, no sales from floats, and no Santa. All conditions were put in place to enhance safety since the parade will be at night and avoid the confusion of Santa impersonators.
