Hello everyone!
The top story this past week has been vaccinations for kids. As we get into the colder weather months, many people get traditional flu shots. This week Journal photographer David DelPoio was on hand with reporter Wayne Miller in Cranston at a state facility to see some of the first of our small citizens getting the COVID-19 shot. Clinics will be opening at local schools and drug stores next week, hopefully helping bring us closer to ending this terrible pandemic.
Fall sports, including at colleges, are ramping up. The Journal photographers, as always, will be out covering high-school and college sports in our area. Kris Craig got an exciting shot this week as Rhody Rams forward Antwan Walker slammed home the ball in the first half of URI’s exhibition against Johnson & Wales at the Ryan Center.
The cool weather makes us all crave warm food. Bob Breidenbach got a mouthwatering shot as Irish pit master Padraic Keane made Friday night barbecue dishes for takeout at Keane’s Wood Fired BBQ like this brisket with barbecue mustard and pickled beets. The story will be in an upcoming food page.
And yes, although Halloween is over, I am leaving our decorations up just a bit longer! One enjoyable outdoor event this season was the Providence Monster Dash 5K. Kris was on hand to photograph the many and varied costumes worn by the participants. There is a page of pictures of it in this weekend’s Sunday Journal and a slide show online, as well as a fun video on providencejournal.com
