For Pike Place Market and its vendors, COVID was yet another test of survival
Pike Place Market located in Downtown Seattle is a popular tourist destination. It is located in the heart of the city and offers many delicacies in its unique stores. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, small businesses at Pike Place have experienced many setbacks despite the state reopening nonessential businesses in June of 2020. Retailers have adapted to the circumstances and even created online store fronts to keep their doors open.

25 years in the making, Trailing of the Sheep Festival still going strong
On Sunday, October 10th Jake Peavey, helped his family bring 1,500 sheep in the intersection of Sun Valley Road and Main Street for the Trailing of the Sheep Festival Parade. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this parade and the Peavey family tradition! The festival offered artisan sheep chive, wool mittens as well as a Peruvian dance show while the sheep made their way through the town. What a sight!

Artists of all ages and experiences displayed their art at the Via Arte Italian Street Painting Festival. This event continues through Sunday, October 17 and allows visitors to view the beautiful creations!

With Halloween approaching, WA ‘wildlife nerd’ creates backyard squirrel-o-lantern
As Halloween approaches, Tia Renee Melhus has been carving pumpkins of a specific size to catch squirrels poking around in them. She has since named them “squirrel-o-lanterns” and has created a social following for posting hilarious pictures of the wildlife interacting with her decorations.
Tia Renee Melhus, a self-proclaimed Whatcom County “wildlife nerd,” had some Halloween fun with squirrels and birds in her backyard, even creating a “Headless Squirrel” by using a feeder inside a jack-o-lantern by Tia Renee Melhus.
